My book concerning the history of
the auxilliary schooner M.V. Eilian, will be available for
sale from 14 August 2008, being the centenary of Eilian's launch.
I have now written a book
detailing the history of Eilian which
greatly adds to the information
in the other web pages on my website. Eilian’s story covers the period 1908 to
1957, in which period she made 1464 cargo voyages totalling 289,602
tons; amongst which were asbestos, bricks, cement, clay, coal, glass,
iron ore, stone and even tea. Her chief cargo was coal which made up 71%
of all her trade, followed by clay at 11% and other cargos at 18%. This
book gives an in depth study into one of the last of the sailing
schooners, plus a full transcript of the cargo books between 1914-1957
and covers the maritime career of her master Jack Newcombe; giving
useful examples of information available to the marine family historian.
The book is hardback casebound, 362 pages, 273x210 format (Letter), with
circa 324
illustrations, weighing 1.35kg (3Ib).
Below are some sample pages from my book

Would you like to commission your own
marine painting?
If so then I recommend artist Robin
Brooks of Black Dog Studios near Crediton, Devon.
As an 8 year old in 1951 Robin remembers well the schooner
Eilian in Ilfracombe harbour and being lifted on board by
one of the crew to have a look around the deck; Eilian
contributed to his lifelong appreciation of marine heritage and
the sea.
Robin has developed his own unique approach to painting. To
those who love ships and the sea, Robin Brooks' paintings are
especially appealing. His search for authenticity and the spirit
of the ship or a moment in history is held in high regard and
through the publication of limited editions, his work has
reached a worldwide audience of appreciative collectors.
